CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 11 OCTOBER 2010 AT 2 PM (EEST)
Cargotec has made a sponsorship agreement for supporting the future development of alpine skier Victor Malmström. The top-talented 19-year-old Victor is a member of the Alpine Ski Team Finland.
"Sports on top level demands determination and joy to accomplish excellence - exactly the same qualities that are needed to succeed in business as well. That is why Cargotec wants to support young, promising athletes like Victor and help them succeed in the future," says Anne Westersund, Cargotec's Vice President, Communications and Marketing.
"It feels great to get support from Cargotec, because they understand what it takes to succeed - you need a lot of work. I aim to succeed among the best of the world like Cargotec," says Victor.
Victor's development has been very fast and he joined the men's Alpine Ski Team Finland already in spring 2010. Currently Victor is in the second place in FIS standings for youth in slalom and giant slalom.
"One of the best events in the last season was the Europe Cup giant slalom in Oberjoch in Germany where I finished seventh after starting with number 49. I was the fastest in the second run and many World Cup skiers were slower. Other recent good results have been, for example, winning in Austria's Lackenhod FIS slalom and Lienz FIS giant slalom, as well as the first and second places in Hinterstroden FIS slalom in two competitions."
In addition to international success, Victor has been successful in his home country, Finland, where he won gold in the national championships for under 20 years old in giant slalom and in men's national championships in slalom. Victor's main goals in the coming season are to succeed in Europe Cup and to develop fast to be successful also in the World Cup.
