CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 25 MARCH 2011 AT 12.00 NOON EET
Cargotec has secured an order for its Kalmar E-One2 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from DP World operating in Sydney, Australia. The new units will augment the customer's existing fleet of RTGs at their Port Botany terminal. Delivery of the cranes is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011.
Cargotec will supply DP World with four of its eight-wheeled, all-electric Kalmar E-One2 RTGs featuring load capacities of 41 tonnes and the ability to stack containers 8+1 wide and 1-over-5 high. The new machines will boast a top of the range specification, with DP World selecting fuel efficient variable speed generator (VSG) engines, as well as Cargotec's UniQ diagnostics tools and its automatic steering and container position verification system, Smartrail®.
The agreement follows the positive experience gained by DP World in Sydney upon the delivery and operation of three Kalmar RTGs in 2006.
DP World operates terminals in Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle and Melbourne as well as Sydney and is a dominant terminal operator in the Australian container handling market. The investment fund Citi Infrastructure Partners, L/P/ (CIP) recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Dubai-based global container terminal operator, taking a 75 percent stake in the DP World Australia group. DP World will continue to retain a 25 percent stake in the Australian business and will manage the five container terminals under a long-term deal.
