Kalmar's goal to develop a global platform for terminal tractors has received a significant boost with the first terminal tractors rolling out of its Shanghai assembly plant. The company now has production capabilities in all key market time zones, with industrial plants already operating in Europe and North America. The Shanghai facility is a further concrete step in its globalisation strategy, cementing Kalmar's position as the world leader in short-distance trailer and container movement equipment.
Kalmar's new Shanghai assembly plant, which began operations in May 2003, has celebrated the completion of its first terminal tractor, for delivery to Shanghai Nice Talent International Container Freight Station & Transportation Co Ltd.
Meanwhile, a further order for ten units has been received from P&O Ports affiliate, Laem Chabang International Terminal in Thailand. These machines are to be delivered in December 2003.
The new Shanghai plant can certainly expect to be kept busy, says Ken Loh,President of Kalmar Asia Pacific Limited:
“PSA Corp in Singapore has ordered eight terminal tractors and there are several negotiations underway with our customers. We expect that the assembly plant will produce up to 100 terminal tractors in 2004.
