Caribbean STS order for Kalmar
Port of Guadeloupe orders two Kalmar ship-to-shore container cranes

Kalmar has received an order for two post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes from Port Autonome de la Guadeloupe (PAG) at Pointe-á-Pitre. With an outreach of 43 metres, these heavy-duty cranes will be capable of handling
16-wide containerships.

The cranes are destined for Terminal de Jarry, which has a total quay length of 600 metres on which three ship-to-shore cranes are already in use.

Kees Derks, Sales Manager, Kalmar Ship-to-Shore Cranes, comments on the recent order:

“Kalmar has previously supplied various container handling equipment such as reachstackers, terminal tractors and forklifts to the Port of Guadeloupe. We are delighted that PAG has also decided to purchase ship-to-shore cranes from Kalmar.

“It is worth mentioning that the cranes will be supplied with Bromma separating twin-lift spreaders, thus boosting the terminal capacity, as well as being designed to withstand hurricane wind speeds of 280 km/hour.

“Kalmar cranes have proven to be reliable, low-maintenance workhorses. Their exceptional quality and efficiency, combined with Kalmar reputation for delivering quickly and within agreed time frames, has led to significant growth in the STS segment.

The design of the cranes will be identical to those delivered recently to P&O Ports Antwerp, combining lightweight structure with high lifting capacity and featuring a small wind surface in order to minimise wheel loadings.

The main parameters of the two ship-to-shore cranes are:

Safe working load on the ropes / under spreader78/60 tonnes

Railspan 15 metres
Backreach 25 metres
Hoisting height 33 metres
Hoisting depth 15 metres
