Press release,15 May 2009
Cargotec business area Kalmar has received an order for three rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Liscont Operadores de Contentores, SA in Lisbon, Portugal. The equipment will be delivered during the first half of 2010.
The order comprises three Kalmar E-ONE+ RTGs with a maximum lifting capacity of 40 tonnes. These 7+1 wide and 1-over-5 high cranes are for the expansion of the Liscont Container Terminal at Alcântara in the port of Lisbon. All the RTGs will be fitted with Kalmar Smartrail autosteering and container position verification systems and Remote Machine Interface (RMI), a tool for remote machine monitoring, maintenance tasking and reporting.
Raimo Ukkonen, Vice President, Kalmar RTGs at Cargotec said:
A few years ago Liscont Container Terminal saw the need to expand its capacity and productivity as container throughput was increasing and devised a strategy for upgrading its reachstacker system to one employing 16-wheel RTGs. Since then, the customer has turned to Kalmar for RTGs, today operating seven of these Kalmar RTGs. This strategy and its co-operation with Kalmar have proven their worth and Liscont is now ready to expand the operation further. Liscont also operates Kalmar terminal tractors.
Kalmar's E-One+ RTG cranes come equipped with a low-emission diesel engine and all-electric trolley, wheel turning and spreader. This 'all-electric' concept, without the need for hydraulics, means that parts are easy to access and fewer components than ever require maintenance. The E-One+ RTGs offer reliability and cost efficiency while also meeting the toughest environmental standards on pollution, discharges, noise, safety and working environment.
Liscont Container Terminal at Alcântara is a deep-sea facility in the port of Lisbon, managed and operated by Liscont under a long-term concession from the port authority. This western point of Continental Europe allows its clients to reach the largest ports of Asia, North Africa and Northern Europe. The terminal also has excellent intermodal connections, distributing cargo to all main Iberian destinations by block train.
