MacGREGOR access systems serve Algerian RoPax ferry pair

RoRo access/transfer equipment packages for ENTMV two new RoPaxes include bow door, bow ramp, stern ramp, internal ramps and hoistable car deck panels

Algeria state-owned Enterprise Nationale de Transports Maritimes de Voyageurs (ENTMV) fleet is being strengthened from end-September with the handover of the first of two 2,900 dwt RoPax ferries from IZAR Sevilla yard. Tassili II will be joined later by a sistership, Al Djezair, from the Spanish shipbuilder.

The new Bureau Veritas-classed tonnage will be deployed between Algiers and Marseilles with a call at Alicante in Spain, each 1,300-passenger ferry offering a freight capacity of 1,350 lane-m (equivalent to 300 cars or 42 trucks). Accommodation is provided for passengers in 132 first-class and 77 tourist-class cabins.

To secure safe and smooth cargo handling, MacGREGOR was commissioned to supply and install RoRo access/transfer packages embracing the following main elements:
* bow door
*bow ramp (16m long including flaps x 5.2m wide, offering a driveway of 4m)
*foldable stern ramp (14.6m long including flaps x 8.2m wide, with a 7m driveway)
*four internal access ramps arranged between decks 3 and 4, measuring 20m long including flaps x 9.3m wide
*ten hoistable car deck panels with an overall area of around 900m2.

MacGREGOR also supplied two pilot doors, two bunker doors, two main power packs and four mini-power packs for the ferries.
